Jefferson Muslim Association owns a 5.9 acres vacant land on 2331, 25th Street, Kenner LA, 70065 and plans to build a new school building and multi-purpose hall in the first phase and a mosque in the future. Walid Kokab, Imam Omar Suleiman & Sr. Jenny Yenez Scope of Construction Committee: Design and Construction of a new two story School Building (Elementary through High School) and a one story Multi-purpose Hall Building. Following are the details of the new Islamic School Project: Current assumption is that the old school building at Maine Avenue, will service Pre-K & K.G and add day-care classes. Comparative operating budget estimate prepared for ISGNO indicates this option will help generate revenue for operating expenses of new school. New School Building: · The new School Building will be a two (2) story Structure with approximately 15,000 sqft area. · The new school will house ELEMENTARY through HIGH SCHOOL · There will be minimum of 12 classrooms with basic facilities required for a high school like science laboratory, computer room, library, faculty room at each floor, a principal’s office, a conference room, one office room, kitchen/food storage room with no stove or oven, bathrooms at each floor, storage rooms at each floor, etc. New Multi-purpose Hall Building: · Attached to the new school, there will be one (1) story Multi-purpose Hall Building with approximately 9,000 sqft area. · Multi-purpose Hall will serve as gym for the school and as a place for community events like graduations, juma prayer, iftaar, traveeh, eid prayers, etc. · Multi-purpose hall will have a kitchen with standard stove, oven and refrigerator, a storage room and restrooms. Project Cost: The estimated cost for the design and construction of new two-story school building and one story multi-purpose hall building mentioned and described above is $ 2.5 million. There will be additional cost for parking lots, fence, furniture, etc., after the completion of construction of these buildings. Project update: On May 30, 2009, the Construction Committee has selected L. Dow Oliver and Assoc. as the architect of this project after interviewing four architects over a span of two months. This selection was approved by the JMA Board on June 2, 2009.
